Passage Pics

Some pictures from our recent passage from Mauritius to South Africa:

On a quiet day at sea, Jennifer gave Geert a much-needed haircut

Geert, the Watch Man, about to go on watch during one of the rougher, wetter parts of the trip

We celebrated the birthday of Geert and Olina's daughter, Jana, at sea.  Cake courtesy of Chef Jennifer!

Keith created a marvelous dinner featuring a just-caught mahi-mahi.

It's not all play; here, Geert and Keith are working on their homework :)

Sharing a moment of laughter at the comic videos playing on our chartplotter (just kidding).

Before GPS, this is how sailors determined their position.  Harder than it looks to keep the sextant steady, even in smooth seas.

Our logbook -- every time a watch ends, the departing watch enters in vital data on course, speed, and weather conditions.

Approaching the coast of South Africa after 15 days at sea.
A sea bird,, wings at full stop and talons dragging the water, scraping up scraps from the tuna feast
Tuna leaping out of the water, part of a huge feeding school that stayed with us for hours and hours.

A quiet sunset, with our dinghy davits framing the softly swirling wake of ile de Grace
