Safe Arrival, South Africa

Yesterday, we arrived safe and sound at Richards Bay, South Africa, after a 15 day trip from Mauritius.  The trip was marked by light to non-existent winds and often contrary currents, leavened greatly by the presence of our two friends, Geert and Keith.  We had some strong winds the last few days, and were relieved to make it to port just ahead of some nasty weather traveling up the coast.

We're currently nestled snugly in a lovely marina, as Keith joins his wife and daughter for some land travel.  Geert will stay on ile de Grace attending to some business, allowing Jennifer and me to spend a week visiting the game reserves in northern South Africa, including Kruger National Park.

More posts and pictures to follow.

Dear Jon,

If I may suggest I want you to consider not to go to Kruger Park or plan not to go any longer than one day. We experienced it being a disappointing tourist trap.

If you look for serious game drives, you better go a bit west to http://www.garonga.com/
Do you want to experience a park with giraffes, hippo’s, apes etc, then visit:
http://www.places.co.za/html/1979.html
This is close to Santa Lucia, famous for it’s hippo’s, crocodiles and rhino’s:

And if you plan to stay there, just try this one:

Just an advice by one of Geert’s (old) friends (and he knows how serious I am when I speak out…

Enjoy! As we do following you blog since Mauritius. Dick Gaasbeek
